MUCH MORE ABOUT EAGLEWORLD

At the Eagleworld, we have spent 50 years sharing our knowledge and passion for the impressive and deeply fascinating birds of prey.

In 1976, the Wenzel family moved from North Zealand near Lake Arresø to North Jutland near Skagen, where the first foundations of the Eagleworld were established.

At that time, Frank Wenzel was already working professionally with nature communication, writing books and producing films in collaboration with organizations such as Berlingske, the Danish State Film Centre, and the publishing houses Munksgaard and Gyldendal. At the same time, he had already become a nationally recognized professional nature photographer with a strong passion for wildlife, birds, and education.

The area close to the sea, the dunes, and the magnificent surrounding nature proved to be the ideal setting for the family’s mission: to create awareness, knowledge, and understanding of birds of prey and their importance in nature. In the beginning, the reserve operated as a pilot project, but in 1980 the site was permanently established, and the Eagleworld was officially founded. In 2026, the Eagleworld celebrates its 50th anniversary — half a century of education, nature conservation, and unique experiences with birds of prey.

Frank Wenzel was a dedicated and talented photographer and author, and like his father, Peter Frank Wenzel and his dedicated team are passionate about sharing the story of birds of prey with the Danish public.

For nearly 70 years — in fact, since Peter’s father, at the age of 15 in 1953, wrote his first book and a few years later founded the Arresø Nature Center in the 1970s, which later evolved into the Eagleworld in North Jutland — more than 30 books have been written, along with films, magazines, newsletters, radio programs, podcasts, and much more. Here, you can explore a selection of the articles and publications created throughout the years.

At the same time, we are deeply committed to nature conservation and gladly share our views on how best to protect wildlife and birds. We believe that education, close-up experiences, and insight into the world of falconry — a UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage tradition with more than 5,000 years of history — are just as relevant and sustainable today as they have always been. We also believe that modern technology can play a central role in solving some of the world’s greatest challenges over the next 100 years, and we actively work on innovative solutions that can make a real difference.

If you would like to learn more about the Eagleworld, our mission, and our vision for the future, you can find inspiring information here. You can, among other things, discover more about the White-tailed Eagle, the Golden Eagle, the impressive Steller’s Sea Eagle, the elegant Black Eagle from Africa, the Andean Condor, as well as the Peregrine Falcon, the Gyrfalcon, and the Saker Falcon. New from 2025 are also our unique owls from South America and the Philippines, as well as the rare Tibetan Bearded Vulture, Barbatus. In addition, you can gain insight into the daily life of a falconer and the specialized equipment used to handle and train these magnificent birds of prey.

Our horses have also played an important role in cultural storytelling, as the Danish king Canute the Holy was both a falconer and a horseman nearly 1,000 years ago. We have specialized in this subject for many years with the help of both Spanish horses and Friesian horses, which help bring history and the ancient falconry tradition to life.

If you would like to experience the eagles up close, you are warmly welcome to visit us during opening hours or book a special arrangement for groups.
